The Fear of Being Seen—Even When You Asked for the Spotlight

You prayed for the platform.
You asked God to increase your reach.
You told your friends this was your season to show up.
You hired the coach. Took the pictures. Launched the site.
And then it happened. People started watching. Following. Asking questions. Leaving comments. Reposting your stuff.
And you…You started shrinking.
Not because you weren’t ready. Not because you didn’t have the skills. But because visibility, in real life, feels different than it does in your journal.
You thought the fear would go away once the growth came.
But truth is—the fear grows with the growth. The more eyes on you, the more you start questioning your voice, your value, your next post.“Was that too much?”“What if they think I’m doing too much?”“Who do I think I am to be out here like this?”
Let me say this loud for the people in the back (and for my past self too):
You can want the spotlight and still be afraid of it.
It doesn’t make you fake. It makes you human.
The fear of being seen usually isn’t about your audience—it’s about your wounds.
We don’t talk about this enough: Some of us aren’t scared of the platform. We’re scared of being misunderstood, picked apart, or seen in the same way we were growing up—through a lens of judgment, not grace.
We’ve healed just enough to show up online. But not always enough to stay there when the real attention starts coming.
So what do you do when visibility makes you want to run and hide?
Here’s what I’ve learned on my journey and what I share with my clients:
Take up space slowly, but boldly. You don’t have to go viral tomorrow. Post at your pace, but post with intention. Going viral shouldn't be the goal when you're first starting and honestly, I don't think it should EVER be the goal.
Let your confidence catch up to your calling. Just because you’ve been called doesn’t mean you’ll feel confident every day. That’s normal. Show up anyway.
Talk to your fear, don’t hide from it. Sometimes I literally say out loud: “Fear, you’re not in charge today.” Sounds crazy, but it works.
Your voice is not too much. Your journey is not too much. You don’t have to apologize for being seen. You prayed for this. Now walk in it.
Final reminder?
Visibility is vulnerable. But when it’s rooted in God, not ego—it’s also powerful.
So don’t shrink. Don’t second guess the very thing you were born to do.
You were made for impact. And impact doesn’t happen in hiding.
If this blog spoke to you, you're not alone. I help my clients walk through this—one confident post at a time. Because showing up as yourself is the most powerful strategy there is. Book a consult with me to see how I can help you!
